Rasam/Lemon Charu

Rasam(Nimmakai charu aka lemon soup) is a part of South Indian traditional meal has health benefits in it. This is best soup for cold winter days or over white rice and improves digestion of food. Pepper in the diet keeps out extra fluids by sweating and urination. Lemon juice is a powerful antibacterial and used in destroying intestinal worms.

Ingredients:
1 tomato chopped
1 onion diced
salt to taste
1 tsp sugar
for rasam powder:
2 tsp toor dal
1 tsp corrionder seeds
1/4 tsp methi seeds
1/4 tsp cumin
1 tsp black pepper seeds
2 dry red chillies
for seasoning:
1 tsp oil
6 curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp black gram
pinch turmaric
dash asafetida

1. Heat skillet, add toor dal and red chillies, let it fry for a minute, add rest of rasam powder ingredients, fry them for a minute more, keep it to cool
2. Power the above ingredients, keep it a side.
3. Boil water in a vessel, add tomatoes, onion to it, cook them until soften
4. Add rasam powder to it, boil for another 5 min.
5. Heat oil in tadka pan, Add all ingredients to it, let them splutter, add it to the rasam.
6. Add sugar to it, tastes good with rice
