Bottle-gourd kofta

Believed to be originated from Africa, bottle gourd  is not familiar in the west, is one of the favourite vegetable in India. Bottle gourd plays important role in preventing urinary disorders, very good for balancing liver functions recommended by Ayurveda physicians. It is also good for constipation and digestive disorders.

Ingredients for kofta
1 medium size bottle gourd grated
1 medium onion finely chopped
2 green chillies chopped
3-4 tsp chopped cilantro
3-4  tsp oats powder or basin optional, (I used oats)
2 tsp cooked rice paste
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp hing
1 tsp oil

For gravy
4-5 tsp poppy seeds
1 large onion finely chopped
7-8 tsp chopped mint leaves
salt to taste
1 tsp red chillies powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
3 tsp yogurt
2 tsp lemon juice

                                        
Method

1. In a bowl mix all kofta ingredients and make small balls of your choice.
2. Heat the oil for deep fry and let the balls fry in the oil until turns brown.
Or these balls can be grilled those who wants to avoid deep oil fry and keep them aside.
3. Now for gravy, heat the oil in a pan, add onion chillies and fry them for 5-7 min
4. add ginger garlic paste, mint leaves, chillies powder, garam masala, salt and cook it for another 5 min
5. Then add poppy seed paste and add water to it, cover the lid n cook for 5 more min
6. Add yogurt for the loose gravy consistency.
7. Lastly add lemon juice to it and enjoy with roti or veg-fried rice.
